I was very surprised to see this photo because I feel like I am looking at myself in a wig. In reality, this is a photo from 1939 of my grandmother Aune Reini Proctor holding my mother (left) with my Great Aunt Cleo Proctor Cavanaugh holding her son Jack. I have never thought that there was any resemblance between us, but the likeness is undeniable here. Strange!
Just a quick entry for this week's Sepia Saturday.
I love the pose of these women with their babies. It makes a lovely composition.

I was looking at some old slides trying to find one of my parents for their 50th wedding anniversary and came across a photo of my sister. Then I realized it was my mother! The resemblance was amazing and I had never really seen it before that moment!
ReplyDeleteI agree, a well-composed picture, with both babies looking in the same direction, and similar poses struck by the ladies. It's odd how family resemblances come to light as we sift through old photos.
ReplyDeleteFamily likenesses surprise at different times. I swear that as I get older I am becoming more and more like my father.
ReplyDeleteHere you have gone back two generations. Good post.
This is why I love old photos so much! It's amazing to see traits that remain for generations! Sometimes it is nothing more than an expression, but more often its a nose, or the way the mouth tilts...just fascinating!
ReplyDeleteGreat picture! She's quite a beauty, very modern looking despite the hairstyle.
ReplyDeleteVery healthy babies. And a nice photo.
ReplyDeleteYes those moments when old family photographs throw up magical "rendez-vous with ourselves" are special. And a nicely unusual photograph in its pose as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of the great comments! CeCe
ReplyDeleteMy sister is the spitting image of my Mum its very strange to see Helen in 70s fashion...great photo
ReplyDeleteThat's a really interesting photograph because of the way it fades at the bottom. I almost thought it was a double exposure. I think you should post a photograph of you next to your look-alike!
