Young Love

I had another hard drive crash, so this Sepia Saturday will be short and sweet with no detective work needed. As a follow-up to last week's post, this week's entry is a small snapshot of my grandparents Everett and Aune (Reini) Proctor. They were married in May 1927 when Aune was only 15 years old and Everett was 23. I don't know if this photo was before or after they married, but it is from right about that time. You can tell how happy they are. Notice how they lean into eachother and Aune has both of her hands toward Everett. They had recently met at a dance (one of my grandmother's favorite activities) and Aune always said that she immediately thought that Everett was "the best looking man" she had ever seen. I think they both look pretty dapper in their stylish clothes. This photo is a real treasure because it clearly communicates to their many descendants the young love and happiness of which they are the result.

  3. What a fabulous photograph! Aune does not look 15 or 16 in this photo -- more like early 20s, don't you think? It's wonderful you have this photograph as a testment of their early love and happiness.

  4. Wonderful photo. Did you add the sepia yourself or was it that way. The photo seems too contrasty to me and the sepia is uneven. Sometimes the smooth grayscale will show much more detail. Just for fun I copied it, changed it to the original black and white and lightened it up. It seems too light but you can see much more detail. I'll send it if your interested and if you'll you show me how. Great blog site. Frank Reid

  5. Thanks for all of the comments. No, Franklin, I did not add anything. It is a very small snapshot and the Sepia is original. I would love to see what you did with it. Can you please send it to yourgeneticgenealogist@gmail.com?
    Thanks so much!

  6. Hi Nancy,
I know Aune doesn't look that young, but the photo had "1927" written on it and she was born in 1912. I have other photos too where she looks much older than she is from about the same time. I think it is just her styling that makes her look older. She may have also been pregnant in that photo.

  7. I've been a fan of that era's ('20s and '30s) styles since encountering "The Great Gatsby," and stories of Bonnie & Clyde, etc.

I agree with what both you and Joan said: The body language between the two speaks volumes!
